DASSIE ABELSON

I don’t like to be inside a studio.  I love to be outside, in nature, smelling the air and looking at all the colors – it makes me feel alive.  I like to look at… and be surrounded by beautiful things like flowers, the ocean, an old house with lots of character…My goal is to capture that beauty.”

Dassie’s paintings capture the beauty, light and colors of natural settings, gardens, beaches and New England treasures.  She is most inspired when painting outside, en plein air, where she’s immersed in the scenery and exposed to the elements. She looks for interesting locations and often revisits her favorite places again and again to paint things from a fresh perspective.

After trying several mediums, Dassie discovered watercolor in 1980 and since then it’s been her medium of choice.  In 2006, she added acrylic back to her palette and now switches back and forth between acrylic and watercolor.  Dassie’s work has been displayed in many settings including restaurants, offices and galleries.  She has received numerous awards in juried exhibits, most recently the Award of Excellence for the 52nd Annual Arts Festival in Cohasset and Honorable Mention for the 40th Annual Pembroke Arts Festival (2007).
